Travertine Stone – A Timeless Natural Beauty
Travertine is one of the most renowned natural stones, celebrated for its timeless elegance and used for centuries in iconic architectural and decorative works worldwide. With a history spanning over a thousand years, it remains one of the most popular stones in modern design, especially in contemporary and minimalist styles.
Travertine is a sedimentary stone formed from calcium carbonate deposits found in rivers, springs, and lakes. Its most distinctive feature lies in its porous surface and natural veining. One of the key advantages of travertine is the wide variety of colors and patterns available, making it easy to find the perfect match for any home. This stone has been used in the construction of significant landmarks across the globe, many of which still stand today, proving its strength and durability. Travertine floors not only enhance the aesthetic value of a home but also add real estate value while being relatively easy to maintain.
Available in shades of beige, brown, white, and even gray, travertine often resembles marble when cut across the grain, which is why it is sometimes mistaken for marble. Unlike other materials, travertine does not easily retain heat, thanks to its porous nature that allows natural cooling and ventilation. This makes it an ideal choice for outdoor areas such as patios, courtyards, and pool decks. Its moisture resistance also makes it suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, and other humid environments.
Prestige Paving proudly imports premium-quality travertine from leading global sources, offering a curated selection of classic tones and patterns. Whether for interior or exterior applications, our travertine brings timeless elegance and durability to every project.

What are Cross-cut and Vein-cut?
There are two main types of travertine cuts, which affect the patterns that appear on the stone slabs:
Cross-cut (cut across the natural veins of the stone)
-
Produces soft, scattered patterns, often appearing as small dots or cloud-like shapes.
-
Creates a clean, elegant look without pronounced lines.
-
Ideal for designs that require a natural, uncluttered surface.
Vein-cut (cut along the stone layers)
-
Produces long, continuous vein patterns that are clearly visible.
-
Adds a striking, modern appearance.
-
Suitable for designs that emphasize line alignment and dimensionality.

What is French Pattern ?
One of our highlights is travertine with a French Pattern (also known as Roman Pattern or Opus Pattern), a specific stone arrangement that creates a classic, dimensional, and unique look. It combines four different slab sizes when laying the floor to produce a continuous and natural-looking pattern.
The French Pattern is a stone laying style inspired by ancient European architecture, consisting of four main slab sizes:
-
8” x 8” (approximately 20 x 20 cm)
-
8” x 16” (approximately 20 x 40 cm)
-
16” x 16” (approximately 40 x 40 cm)
-
16” x 24” (approximately 40 x 60 cm)
This arrangement adds visual interest and variation to the surface, creating a beautiful, non-repetitive look that feels both luxurious and natural at the same time.
